Energy Efficient Window Film Even Provides Health Benefits

It’s commonly known that the sun’s UVA and UVB rays cause harmful effects to our skin when we’re outside and we know to protect our skin with sunscreen and by covering up. But do you know that UV rays also enter our homes and offices through unprotected glass and cause the same damage to our skin indoors, as well as harming our carpets, curtains and furniture? Having window film installed on your windows can protect you from these cancer-causing rays.

Damaging UV Rays

We are exposed to ultraviolet rays even while sitting by a window at work or looking out our windows at home. Regular glass will block out most of the UVB rays but it still allows at least 50 percent of the UVA rays to pass through. Let’s not sit idly by and allow the UVA rays to penetrate deep into our skin, accelerate skin aging and damage our belongings. UVA rays may be less intense than UVB rays, but they are present during all daylight hours throughout the entire year, and cause us to have rougher, more wrinkled, and sagging skin on exposed surfaces. By offering up to 99.9 percent of UVA radiation protection, window film proves to be a valuable solution!

“To see the damage that untreated glass can do, take a close look at the furnishings in your home that are hit by direct sunlight,” says Perry Robins, MD, President of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “If the sun has faded the color of your sofa, it can just as easily damage your skin when you sit there.”

Faded floor

There are residential and commercial window films available that do more than just protect our skin and belongings; they can actually reduce energy costs. During hot weather, window films cut down heat, thereby reducing air conditioning expenses. And during cold weather, the heat is reflected back into our homes, reducing heating costs. There are even safety films available for residential and commercial applications that help hold glass in place if shattered during an attempted break-in or severe weather event and protect us from personal injury from broken or flying glass.

Take the time to talk with us at Solar Energy Control about the variety of window films available for your home or office. We can help you choose the best film for your application. You can call us at (763) 354-2838 or send an email to info@solarenergycontrol.net.
